Penny Mart takes over former 7-Eleven in Hagerstown
A local convenience store chain based in Frederick has opened its fifth location in Hagerstown.
Penny Mart started welcoming customers on Thursday at 802 Salem Ave., the former 7-Eleven store.
The new location will be open 24-7, according to a news release from Jamil Malik, the owner of the chain. He will be hiring 18 full-time and part-time employees.

"Everything you need under one roof from groceries to tobacco, to a full deli," the release states. "The deli offers items such as hot & cold sandwiches, wings, hot dogs, breakfast, burgers, and pizza. Penny Mart also accepts SNAP – EBT."
The new store will compliment the chain's other stores covering the north, south, east and west sides of Hagerstown's downtown.

Meanwhile, Malik will be in Hagerstown on May 10 to formally cut the ribbon on the chain's fourth store at 245 N. Potomac St. The event, from 10 to 11 a.m., is open to the public.
