Burlington to open Hagerstown store

Burlington's new Hagerstown store is slated to open in the spring, according to a company spokesperson.

The store will be in the former OfficeMax spot at 17665 Garland Groh Blvd. in the Centre at Hagerstown, off U.S. 40 west of Interstate 81.

A new Burlington store is slated to open in the spring of 2022 in the former OfficeMax Locaton on Garland Groh Boulevard.

Burlington Stores began in 1972 as a family-run business. Known as Burlington Coat Factory, it focused on delivering a selection of off-price coats and outerwear, according to the company's website.

The company opened more stores and expanded its products to include women's sportswear, men’s active wear and children’s apparel, as well as items for babies and the home. The name was changed to Burlington Stores to reflect the breadth of its offerings.

A third Penny Mart location will open soon in downtown Hagerstown.

The store at 101 E. Washington St. will open Sept. 1, said Jamil Malik, Penny Mart CEO.

"I expect it to do more (business) than any of my other stores in Hagerstown," Malik said.

In the fall of 2020, Malik opened the first Penny Mart in Hagertstown at 167 S. Potomac St. In April, he opened the second location at 846 W. Washington St.

Penny Mart’s concept is something of a grocery and deli, Malik said, offering items such as sandwiches, wings and pizza.

The stores also sell canned and frozen foods, tobacco products, paper goods and other wares.
